Getting wordy...
I’ve decided to let the vocabulary tracking end. I find myself constantly thinking that I need to add.. that.. new word to my list, and that one.. and that one – and forgetting half of them by the time I have a second to pull up my list. So from this point on, Mama’s done tracking the dictionary of words developing within Kenzie – unless of course, it’s significantly significant or just plain darling.
To date, her words tend to work overtime, (if I recall from college correctly, development experts would call this over-extension). Therefore, one word is used and misused in numerous contexts. Like Dada. It’s that handsome man who’s life revolves around her. It’s the phone, (probably, because Dada’s likely on the other end). It’s every lone guy who happens by and she doesn’t know how to identify him properly. It’s several stuffed animals. It’s, “I’ve woken up and come get me from my crib already.” Dada, is a term that works overtime on a daily basis.
Words tend to be missing significant syllables, or she’s mastered parts of them and not others. She says, Turt (for turtle), Sna (for snail), pay (for play), Moo (for movie), etc. Of course, this is age and stage appropriate. She’s prideful of her mimicking ability. As I’ve said before, she gives difficult words a fair try – and keeps trying again, based on our positive reactions to the hilarious pronunciations.
Oppothomas (hippopottamus).... Apopter (helicopter)... Are always sources for good giggles.
