Today, I finished up hanging some pictures that were much too large and awkward for one person to be hanging on their own...but I am an impatient soul and could not wait another minute. I started installing them all this past weekend, while Doug was away skiing.
Today, while wrestling a large mirror in a bedroom - I had it hanging katywampous on the wall connected to one screw while I was attempting to mark where to install the final screw. My sidekick, Kenzie, was playing with puzzles, and the drill, and the screws and anchors...
Needing the pen, and her being the only other person with an extra arm in the room - I asked her to hand me the pen. Like an idiot I'd just located it laying on the bed OUT OF MY REACH, amongst assorted other things.
Me: Kenz, could you be mommy's helper and give me that pen?
Kenzie: Ee-i-ee-i-o, Old McMommald had a faaaarm.
Me: Kenzie, the pen...could you give Mama the pen?
Kenzie: Ah, the yellow one? (I don't know why...but that just makes me giggle that she thought to assign a color to it).
Me: No, Kenz, the blue pen. It's blue, it's laying next to the screwdriver.
Kenzie hands me the screwdriver.
Me: Thanks baby - now hand me the pen.
Kenzie hands me about 12 screws --- one at a..freaking...time.
Me: Ah, Thank you!! Now, give me the pen. (which is now the only thing left on the bed).
Kenzie takes off running into the hallway where she starts lining up her hard plastic animals on the bench.
Me: KENZ!! The pen. I need the pen.
She returns and hands me a horse.
My arms are shaking by now from holding the heavy mirror, and I pull it off of the screw.
She. promptly. walks. over. and. picks. up. the. PEN.
And runs down the hallway with it.
Ah, Mommy's little helper!!! What did I expect from a soon-to-be 2-year old???
**sidenote: During Kenzie's unusually long nap today, I did get the mirror installed - perfectly straight on the FIRST try!!
