Candle wax painting
Yesterday, we sat down to do some art only to realize we had several important materials that have taken up missing. No scissors. No good watercolors. Hmnnn. We checked all the regular "homes" and never found them. Sigh.
Off the cuff, I grabbed a candlestick that Kenzie had been playing with and broken into three pieces. (grrrr.) I used it to write an invisible message on a piece of paper. I handed her the (cheap bad) watercolors and had her paint the entire page in random colors. Of course the watercolor separates around the wax lines and makes the invisible message appear.
Even though Kenzie can't read...she can recognize shapes, and her name. I decoded the rest of the message to her. She was definitely intrigued by how the colors adhered everywhere, except for where I'd drug the candlestick. We made a couple more where she laid down the wax trails. An easy way to pass an afternoon...
