The Butterfly Whisperer

We've reached the next stage in the butterfly growing. The caterpillars became huge and are crawling to the top of the cups to hang upside down. There is a bunch of silk throughout the cups now, so the view isn't too pretty. But, it IS fascinating. They need to be still during this time as they change into butterflies. It takes one to two days to curl up and harden into irredescent chrysalids. Within the chrysalid, the old body parts of the caterpillar will undergo a remarkable change to form the new body parts that make up the adult butterfly. This pupal stage will take 7 to 10 days.

And the bug hunting is GOOD out back right now. It's not often that you are inches away from a butterfly whilst chasing down a centipede, eh???
