Operation Big Girl
Last night, my head nearly spun around on my shoulders and launched itself against the wall. My husband exclaims excitedly that he thinks Kenzie should sleep in HER BIG GIRL BED this weekend. Visions of terror filled my mind - imaginations of her staying awake all night, traipsing into our room...and a solid refusal to take a daily nap. Mama NEEDS those daily naps. I nearly bit his head right off, right in the presence of our daughter. Reminding him I have to work, sew, clean, etc. while she sleeps. And that will all be sorely doomed if we graduate her to the bed -- where she can escape.
This morning - Kenzie awakened for her day & exclaims "Take the crib apart!!! I'm sleeping in my big girl bed this weekend."
Cursing under my breath, but smiling the whole time - I remind myself to let my daughter lead her transition. I will follow.
What a big girl she is!! Won't this be FUN!!!? HOOOOORAY!
Naptime arrived. Cringing, I'm reading her stories and almost hoping she'll beg to go to her crib. Nope, her and a few 100 of her closest stuffed animal friends are tucked away comfortably in her big girl bed. They're ready.
I shut the door. And wait.
2.1 seconds later - she exclaims: "Mama, I'm DONE!"
Oh shoot.
Three visits to the room and reminders to take a nap later...
And, she is solidly napping in her big girl bed.
Mama is astonished, and publicly apologizes to her husband for the scene which occurred the previous evening.
Operation Big Girl is a GO. And, perhaps, achieved.
