First Slumber Party!!
Kenzie & Gracie's 1st Sleepover
Kenzie and her little pal, Gracie, have regular playdates, alternating between households. Kenzie adores Gracie and really looks forward to their outings. And, Gracie's mom tends to have the same neurotic tendencies that I do about the care of my child (no plastic sippies! Organic!! etc.), so I love it when Gracie's mom Ann (or "Ant," as Kenzie calls her) offers to entertain the girls for the day. Gracie is an only child, and Ann has SO MUCH energy & great ideas!
Gracie's dad was out of town for the evening and Ann wanted to host a sleep-over. At first, I thought age 4 was a little young...but turns out I was wrong. I fully anticipated that we'd be picking Kenzie up late at night - but she fooled me.
Ann summarized the night in an email to me:
Well, I have never seen Gracie laugh for so long before bedtime. They really had fun. Kenzie told us all about her bedtime routine; water in her pink metal sippy cup, saying goodnight to everyone, books, leaving a night light on so she can find her way to the bathroom in case she wakes up and needs to go potty, closing all the doors so doesn't have to see any monsters in case there are any. Of course they showed each other how they brush their teeth and they both flossed too. They best Gracie has ever flossed to impress Kenzie, I think.
Kenzie started to get scared so I lay in the middle and scratched their backs and sang nursery rhymes. Kenzie complimented me after each song...so sweet.. she really appreciates little things - especially my newest home additions. She notices everything new, amazing!
Oh and she did say before I started scratching their backs that she wanted to go home that was about 10pm and of course I said that was fine - and all I have to do is call and you guys would come get her. Then she said, let me think about it first. Then asked, "If I go home will I get to have another sleep-over?" I replied, sure but maybe we should wait until your a little older... like 5. She immediately said she wanted to stay because that would take too long and she would be bored.
The picture above was taken after Ann turned her back for a phone call. The girls quickly decorated themselves.
The next morning included a playdate with another gal, Megan. I showed up to collect my gal, who BURST INTO TEARS because she didn't want to come home. Way to break your Mama's heart, Kenzie!!!
But, I got to be the first customer at their limeade stand - and after a quick thinking bribe (to try the homemade chocolate pudding pops we'd made), we returned home without further heartbreak.
Now, we've opened a can of worms. Kenzie is already asking about having a slumber party SOON!!
